For this project, I used UX design principles for an industrial design problem: creating a mouse cage, by conducting a user-centric design study from a mouse’s viewpoint. Normally UX design is concentrated on humans and their interactions with the built world — but, the same methods can be used with other animals. The fundamentals goals of design, empathy, emotion, and ease of use, are not exclusive to humans.
By adopting design thinking and UX principles, I then developed the necessary criteria to design a better mouse cage which is more compatible with satisfying the mouse’s emotional and physical needs than the ordinary cage.
To begin this project, I conducted research on mice’s behaviour and their physical and mental needs. I then made a User persona of a mouse using this information.
